I love humans to the extreme and hold so much compassion for everyone; however, this seems to be a very basic “mourning while something is dying” procedure. They just want whatever “it” is to be over with.

It’s unfortunate that people are so traumatized that they have to cope by hoping we’ll all just get suddenly destroyed by something out of our control. Somehow, this is better than the current alternative: a long, drawn out and inevitable uncertainty of what could happen. Very human thought process.
