At a gay bar in New York trying to manifest a dance off between FKA Twigs and Tate McRae

(Cuz obviously Twigs wins the song-off to such a humiliating degree it isn't fair)

Watching Caught Stealing. I could see why people thought this might be a hit. Darren Aronofsky directs it with flair, its Y2K style is a blast, Austin Butler looks great, but the plot is a little too, ya know, who cares.

I genuinely love for The Morning Show and its over the top melodrama, expensive production values, and acting that's unapologetically BIG. Four episodes into the new season the one I'm most rooting for is Karen Pittman, and of course Jennifer Aniston, making big performances look easy for 30 years

I've never seen a more ridiculous high budget high concept prestige drama than Morning Show, give me 50 seasons of this nonsense

Platonic is the best show on television. I've been watching Abbott Elementary enjoying it fine but rolling my eyes every time it turns into group hug nonsense, but Platonic reminded me what genuine heart and humor were.

I'm proud of Lady Gaga for releasing Dead Dance and showing us Mayhem is a Halloween album. Proud of Ariana Grande listening to Twilight Zone for making me realize it's a rapture album with that cover. And proud of my girl Neko Case for releasing a new album full of all these instruments.

@tombreihan.bsky.social A thought I just had because of it coming on in a gay bar I'm currently in- as a religious reader of your #1s column, I think you should mention when you bring up Dua Lipa's Levitating that although it peaked at #2 it wound up being the #1 song of 2021, cuz how cool is that?

Like a toilet clogged (with cheese or something?) by an ambiguously gendered background character named Epcot, our tolerance for And Just Like That's time wasting plotlines was finally overwhelmed by Victor Garber's plentiful urine and our ability to handle this show failed.

It's honestly impressive how bad the And Just Like That finale was. A dozen inconsequential plots wrapped up with a quick reminder scene and a 10 second cheesy resolution sometime later. Even Carrie's conclusion that she doesn't need anyone gets less time than a literal toilet full of shit.

Shout out to Debra Messing in The Alto Knights, a great performance that she's such a natural fit for, even if I never would've thought she'd be in a movie like this

Shout out to whatever muppet goose had to give up their life for Carrie Coon's hat on this week's Gilded Age
August 5, 2025 at 6:20 AM
Is The Gilded Age... The best drama currently on tv????! I couldn't be prouder of this show this season if it suddenly invented the alarm clock.

Shout out to Carrie Coon on Gilded Age this week looking like a Storm Trooper with a stuffed goose as a hat

Feist's "The Circle Married The Line"is truly one of my favorite songs. I swear there's 50 individual instruments you hear in that song that keep giving it more and more meaning and presence. Every time I hear it even hundreds of times later I still hear something new.

Last year I was watching Gilded Age at my brother's place while he was rocking a crying baby to sleep. I felt embarrassed to be watching something so clearly (hilariously!) dull. This season I'm enraptured by its plots and views of this world. It may have stumbled onto having a few things to say.

So interesting the way Gilded Age's plotline about forcing young Gladys into an arranged marriage with a Duke turns out to be weirdly feminist- a way for her mother to buy Gladys autonomy and presence. Something straight out of the best of Jane Austen.

Oscar on Gilded Age is a little shit. Destroys his mother's life by losing all her family's money and then makes fun of her nonstop after? A 19th century spoiled brat.

Cynthia Nixon deserves an Emmy for Gilded Age for finding a way to be insane and irritating in a way that's completely separate than the way old lesbian Miranda is insane and irritating.

Having seen several movies with a live symphony orchestra now, I'd like to humbly request an orchestra to play all the weird 70s half scores from Inglorious Basterds. I will volunteer myself to sing "Cat People". You're welcome for this idea.

If this goddamn soap opera of a new Bear season goes on to win the Best Comedy Series Emmy...

The co headliner concert I want is FKA Twigs and Grimes. Musically I feel like they'd be sisters anyway, just with twigs being like into opera. We'll just make everyone in the audience sign a waiver that no one will bring up Elon Musk for a couple hours

I've watched most of this season of Your Friends & Neighbors on AppleTV, an ok show that mistakes Jon Hamm's looks for a personality. Olivia Munn and Amanda Peet are terrific but the show is hard to believe, and one dimensional... But watchable in its own right.

Last night's viewing was Yorgos Lanthomos's Kinds of Kindness, a strange miserable three hours that I guess was a good movie. Tonight's viewing is two episodes of Poker Face. Last night was a hearty meal of eggplant and endives, tonight's is like a dinner of peach cobbler 🥰🥰🃏
