Google is 'inspired' yet again by GrapheneOS.

We are so far ahead and this shows how far behind the curve Android 17 is with this, we had it implemented on Android 13 in May 2023.

Android 17 is building a new Contacts Picker to keep your address book private
Android 17 may finally let you share only specific contacts with apps thanks to a new Contacts Picker tool. Here's how it may work.

Been asked a few times which mobile OS is most secure, since a recent post. So I'll say it here again.

GrapheneOS

I've said consistently since I arrived on Bluesky and will continue to say it.

When lives depend on it GrapheneOS is the only OS I'll use.

End of story.

GrapheneOS can't stop winning 💪
Someone recently managed to get on a Microsoft Teams call with representatives from phone hacking company Cellebrite, and then leaked a screenshot of the company’s capabilities against many Google Pixel phones

Someone Snuck Into a Cellebrite Microsoft Teams Call and Leaked Phone Unlocking Details
The leaked slide focuses on Google Pixel phones and mentions those running the security-focused GrapheneOS operating system.

there are some apps that work better on GrapheneOS, and worse on stock Pixel Android
Why should we be allowing that the LibreLink app for FreeStyle Libre glucose sensors has broken alarms and flaky NFC on Google’s Pixel software, and yet it works flawlessly on @grapheneos.org's distro with the exact same app? When people's lives could be at risk due to this, stuff must "just work".

difficult to call an OS secure when it has no proper app sandboxing, memory tagging, no proper hardware TPM/secure element support, etc

free and open source? definitely!

secure? only relative to other desktop OSes at best

if you need security on a mobile device - grapheneOS would fit much better

So far one of the best things about GrapheneOS is that holding down the power button opens the shutdown menu (as it used to on Android before Google fully embraced shoving shit sandwiches down users' throats)

my fellow GrapheneOS enjoyers

let's make a list of apps that have made a conscious decision to officially support GrapheneOS

almost all Android apps work fine on GrapheneOS, but some have decided to go an extra mile to target the private and secure OS

Android 16 is surely on its way to the stable release channel. GrapheneOS team handling Google's takedown of device trees like the GOATs they are by just working insanely overtime for about a month. Congrats team and thank you for the tireless effort ❤️💪🤖
GrapheneOS based on Android 16 is now available in our Beta channel. There are 2 main known issues which will be fixed in the next release: lockscreen date and media info are not properly displayed due to an upstream AOSP bug and Pixel Thermometer doesn't appear in our App Store.

We need testers
We need help testing our experimental Android 16 support. If you have a spare 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th generation Pixel, you can help us test early builds for Android 16 soon. You can join our testing chat room via Matrix or Discord if you want to help. grapheneos.org/contact#comm....

if you want a really secure mini / super portable form factor computer one of the cheapest things you can do is get a Pixel Tablet and then install grapheneos on it. The form factor is unique, arm processor so very power efficient (very hard to find a linux laptop that's arm based).

Just donated to @grapheneos.org because they’re doing amazing work, and it hit me:

Supporting indie hackers and open-source projects hits differently when you’re indie hacking too. You really feel the struggle of running a digital product and how tough it is to push through.
