I grow vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs, and Indiana native plants. I make gardens.
3/3 So I'm not sure what I've got. I would usually prefer the local genotype as well. Anyhow, I'm glad the USDA site is working and I hope it doesn't go away again. Thanks to all who responded and to those that were concerned. The native plant community is small but passionate! 🌱

2/3 I was trying to determine if Prunella vulgaris L. ssp. vulgaris grew in Oregon because I have some seeds from there that do not include info on the subspecies. It does, but Prunella vulgaris L. ssp. vulgaris also does apparently, and I double checked this in iNaturalist. 🌱

Those are useful, but unfortunately not for what I was trying to do. I'm working on habitat restoration in a single county. I was trying to determine if a subspecies that grows here grew anywhere else that a seed seller or nursery might have it. Wild collection is not always possible or desirable.

I can never grow enough spinach! I've got the old standard, "Bloomsdale Long Standing", and a new one - "Giant Winter" which I picked up from Adaptive Seeds. They are both doing quite well and I'll plant them out around March 20 (Zone 6b, Southern Indiana, USA).

She was. I miss her so much. I don't know how I got so lucky as to be her human.

My guess is soil pH. Easy enough to test, but if you don't know the soil pH from when the roses were white, it might not be as helpful. But I assume the roses were supposed to be white, so if the soil pH is off, bringing it back to between 6 and 6.5 should restore them to their original color.

The moral of this story is I should store my seeds under more ideal conditions or use fresher seeds. Champion and Cherry Belle grew well for me when they were fresher. Shogoin and I don't get along, but Seed Treasures is a great company and Shogoin grows beautifully in Kyoto, and MN apparently. 🌱

All of the seed companies are reputable and the fault here is mine from seed age or storage conditions. They are, from front to back: '23 Southern Exposure Cherry Belle, '23 Seed Treasures Champion, '24 Adaptive Seeds Pink Beauty, '24 Adaptive Seeds Aprovecho Hardy, and '23 Seed Treasures Shogoin. 🌱

It's only available online as far as I know. I also used Sea-90 Agriculture Foliar Mineralizer on 1 bed of a 5 bed section of my garden and it outperformed the other 4. I can't say definitively that was why as there were other factors. I'll do more trials this year since the results were encouraging

I've been pleased with the Elm Dirt family of products.
