So the best place is as close to the equator as possible. I think that's why SpaceX has its Starbase at the southernmost point in the mainland US.

A geostationary orbit must be over the equator. You can launch from somewhere other than the equator but then have to correct the orbit (a "plane change manoeuvre") which costs a lot of fuel.
