Today is the feast day of SS Cyril and Methodius, the "Apostles to the Slavs." This is a section of the Alphonse Mucha window in Prague's St. Vitus cathedral. At the top are the two saints baptizing Borivoj, below is St. Ludmila and her grandson, St. Wenceslas (Vaclav).

Here's a picture of three septuagenarians enjoying the parade of their military might on May Day, 1980. Brezhnev (center), Kosygin (left) and Suslov (right). All three were dead before the end of 1982.

Apropos of Trump putting on a USSR-style parade in DC in June, here's a thought to ponder: These Soviet leaders at the 1980 parade, Brezhnev (center, aged 73), Mikhail Suslov (to Brezhnev's left, aged 77) and Alexei Kosygin (aged 76, to his right) were all dead before the end of 1982.

This is interesting. Just to see what might happen, I put my name in the search tool, and this is what it came up with: 2 book reviews and a monograph.

And if that’s not Orwellian enough, in the appeals process I have to get a code sent to my mobile, and the “machine” refuses to send to my number. Like I’m going to get a second mobile, or give them someone else’s number??

So WaPo pulled out of an ad buy for the wrap for some of its Tuesday papers. I wonder why, Jeff Bezos?

Winter moon last night, followed by some real “red sky at morning” vibes when the cats woke me too early today.

Wishing all friends and passers-by on Bluesky a lovely holiday, whichever one you celebrate (or none). And the best for 2025.

I've been making this for New Year's (and whenever the spirit and collard greens move me) and it's very good. No ham, it's more Greek inspired than "Southern".

Two nights away from full, but 96% is still a pretty solid “A”. Can you tell it’s grading season at the end of the semester?
