Also, Payton’s secret motivation for wanting to become a trainer is to one day find his dad and become a stronger trainer than him. He wants to beat him in a battle as revenge for him walking out on him and his family. Even though that isn’t his main motivation, it’s personal too.

So most of his journey is spent learning everything he can to be a decent trainer. He makes a lot of friends, with both people and Pokemon.

So basically until his first journey through Unova, Payton knew absolutely nothing about being a Pokemon trainer. But his mother didn’t want him to become one due to the scars the father left. It took a lot of convincing from Professor Junipet to let him go finally.

Well Payton is around 11 years old when he starts his journey. He’s Unova born and lives in Nuvema Town with his single mother, Miriam, and little sister, Rika.
Payton’s father left him and his family when he was young to be an elite trainer. So Miriam sheltered Payton from the trainer world.
