Simulating optical sensors such as cameras is a hard problem. A camera is really 1000s of smaller sensors each measuring a superposition of 1000000s of signals (ie. light particles/waves).

Fortunately, there's great open-source projects solving this problem!

PyRoboSim is an awesome open-source tool developed by @roboticseabass.com to do just this! It also has a sister tool called PyRoboPlan for manipulator motion planning designed for education purposes.

Mind blowing GNSS-free navigation performance demonstration by Q-CTRL using their Ironstone Opal GPS-free quantum navigation system. Their system uses "quantum sensors" to sense Earth's magnetic and gravitational fields and compare the measurements against their field maps.

MoveIt by PickNik Robotics is an open-source framework for robotic motion planning, primarily focused on robotic arms. PickNik has been gathering huge momentum in the past couple of years and there's no surprises there given how powerful MoveIt and their wider ecosystem is.
