It was true a month ago and it’s even more true now. Please consider going to NIH RePORTER to look up how much money your state gets from NIH funding, and then write to your elected representatives about the impact that ending NIH grant review will have. No NIH study section==no NIH funding.
Why I continue to suggest that everyone who wants to advocate for science should go to NIH RePORTER, look up how much your state and congressional district receive in NIH funding, and write to your corresponding congressperson about it. Losing NIH funding has massive ripple effects. reporter.nih.gov

Scientific advancements aside, this is economically irresponsible

Every $1 spent by NIH generates $2.46

For example, in 2023, $47B in NIH spending generated ~$93B

Halting NIH spending will LOSE the US a lot of money (and talent)

NIH funding supports the vast majority of all biomedical research in the United States. Virtually every advance in American medicine and biological science comes from NIH. This is a blow against American science.

Call Congress, 202-224-3121.
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions

✨ Expansion Microscopy turns 10! Grateful to see Nature recognize our work—developing Magnify and spinning off Magnify Biosciences to deliver easy-to-use kits. It’s so intuitive my then-9-year-old son expanded and imaged a brain slice! 🌍🔬https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-00059-6
