Some mutants impaired in deoxyribonucleotide biosynthesis (tso2 and rnr1/2) show defects in endoreduplication, but they also come with serious negative phenotypes.

Many labs use AGL-1 as well. It is supposed to be more virulent and is recA negative. We use it regularly and it behaves well. Another option we will try is a Rhizobium strain that is supposedly even more virulent: doi.org/10.1111/pbi....
