"US planning" 🤣

Exactly right. Working with the EU on Good Things, while not having to do so on Bad Things, was a key message from the more sensible Leavers in 2016. To the extent the govt does so (and rejoining Erasmus is clearly one example of it) it should be praised not lazily criticised.

I didn't believe you, so had a look on X, and yes there's Priti Patel describing this as a "betrayal of Brexit". Which is a terrible look - you would have thought it was hard to oppose students going abroad a bit.

Interesting re @tommctague.bsky.social's book. Yes much was handled badly. But underlying all, unacknowledged here, is a tricky problem: how should these islands and the continent interact? Also maybe the author might admit that relationships, even if a good idea once, can over time cease to work.

Are you saying that the UK press didn't cover this story? Because: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/09..., Reform UK’s ex-leader in Wales Nathan Gill pleads guilty to bribery charges | Wales | The Guardian share.google/ntYysUVKJ1oL...

Also why are you posting on a Friday?

I thought a 4 day week involved working for 4 days a week, not just not bothering to turn up for work for 4 days and messing up the plans of everyone else?

"it would be all over the papers" is not the most scientific test. Anyway, the impact - and of course there will be an impact, you can't put up the price of something by 20% and it makes no difference - won't show for many years.

"Deadline" 😂

Why? None of the other crazy stuff he's done has led to Americans doing anything more shrug (most) or complain a bit then shrug (the rest). Not just Republicans, the country as a whole has been passive and supine.

Agreed. Terrible for the armchair fans but also the sport itself. £31/month is a crazy price. @warnerbrostv.bsky.social @tntsportsus.bsky.social must really hate cycling, and love wasting their shareholders' money.

And this differs from your priors how, exactly?

It's almost as if politicians make changes to electoral rules pretending it's for honourable reasons whereas in fact it's because it will help their party"s prospects. See also: votes for 16&17-year-olds.

Yup. He displays all the grace and subtlety which one would expect from a Trump appointee. Also an amusing reference to "America's allies'. Thanks to your boss you don't have any of those any more, mate.

Erm, is that right about Norman Fowler in 1974? If it is, Wikipedia is wrong.

You are, as so often, on the point. Sir JB (I've met him) is exactly the sort of not-particularly-ideological Conservative who for c 150 years could have expected/hoped the pendulum swung the right way at the right time to give him a really big government job or two. And now he doesn't.

I think it's ok as long as you also say "an hospital" and "an hedgehog".
