when i stumble over writing a bit of a scene, i'll put a description of what i need to write in brackets and then keep going.

Example from my urban fantasy WIP:
There was a conveyor belt in front of us carrying different colored plates of food. “Grab whatever ones look good to you,” Salem said. He did just that, grabbing a yellow plate with some food on it [describe the sushi. Google it if you have to].

James hooked up the flag up to the flagstaff and ascended it toward the sky. It flapped in the wind, curling and uncurling. He stared up at it with a wide grin on his face. “Isn’t it perfect?” Tessa looked up, too, and smiled. “It’s great,” she said.

I've decided to push the publication date of To the Sky to September 2026 so it can go through one more round of beta readers.

I'm currently on chapter 23 of 35 for applying the first round of beta notes. I'll be done by the end of the month.

I heard from my cover artist today, too.

I don't have many animals in To the Sky, but I did just add this good boy
“Do you mind if I ride with you? Just to the village.” Tessa folded her hands in front of her and bowed. “I’d be ever so grateful.” The man thumbed to the covered wagon. “Hop in the back. My boy’s back there, but he shouldn’t be a bother,” he said. Tessa straightened up and said, “Thank you. I really appreciate it.” She did as he said and climbed into the back of the wagon. When she didn’t spy a young boy, she scrunched her face up in confusion. There’s no one here, she thought. Was he buried under some of the goods? There certainly were a lot of them. Crates, barrels, and chests covered the floor of the wagon. A tarp at the back moved when the wagon jerked to a start, but Tessa wasn’t sure if it was from the wagon moving or from a body beneath it. She took a seat in front of a crate, leaning back against it and pulling her knees up to her chest to take up as little space as possible. Something rustled in the wagon’s cargo. “Um, hello?” Tessa called out, glancing around. A short-haired, black dog came out from under a tarp, stretching and yawning. “Oh, you’re the boy,” Tessa said as the dog dropped to the floor of the wagon again, his head in her lap as she laid her legs down. His tail thumped the crates around him as he wagged it. Together, Tessa and the dog watched the land roll out beneath them on the way to Bellenau. The wagon moved smoothly along the dirt road. Tessa thought about the people who kept the road clear for the travelers. Maybe there were more guests to Bellenau than she originally thought. “You okay in there, miss?” the wagon driver asked as they pulled to a stop. He came around to the back of the wagon to see his dog in her lap. “Looks like you’ve made yourself a friend. Get up, boy. Our girl’s getting out.” The dog wagged his tail one last time, then sat up to get out of Tessa’s way. Tessa patted him on the head on her way out. The man held his hand out to her and she took it on the descent back down to the road.

I got this comment on my first chapter of Sandalwood, an urban fantasy about a witch who's investigating the murder of other witches while falling for the King of Hell.

I might have a cover for To The Sky in July/August. I'm hoping to publish it in March of 2026, so I've got just under a year to get it read.

I wrote the blurb for the book a while back. I wanted to share it here for anyone who's interested in a sky pirate/princess story

She’s grown up sheltered in a world where magic is taboo. On the other hand, James is the sky pirate captain of Coincidence. He has the freedom of a mostly law-abiding civilian. It is one thing that Tessa’s betrothed is an evil sorcerer that wants to take over Winderia by any means necessary, but what she does with that knowledge is much more complicated. Running away gets her nowhere; not with James set out to bring her back to her parents. Perhaps, together, they can find a way to save the kingdom—and her freedom.

i finished drafting my fic last week. working on a game jam game this week and next

got skeleton rigging figured out, which was awesome and now i can do it without checking the tutorial
