Encourage an environment that enables staff to mix both socially and professionally, encourage buddies and mentors between generations to help understanding. Develop interactive workshops using insight from different generations and perspectives etc. #HRHour

doh sorry! and I am not sure if I am honest but it’s a good point we just “assume” accessibility often..
March 27, 2025 at 8:34 PM
Yes, that’s a really good point actually because subconsciously I think they play in a key role in the shift in culture. I know when to use an emoji and when to not. If I go back to the early days in my career there was definitely a phone voice! Similar to work casual vs suited & booted? #HRHour

In what way #HRHour?
March 27, 2025 at 8:24 PM
and whilst I feel more cool 😎 there are still times when I absolutely would not use this informal style, e.g preparing board agendas or inviting someone to a formal meeting etc- I don’t think inviting someone to a disciplinary with a sad face added for dramatic effect would be appropriate 😉 #HRHour

I hated it to begin with but used to it now.. it’s essentially replaced emails… and definitely appeals to our younger colleagues who prefer messaging to having to speak face to face.

We use Slack across our business for most of our comms and general updates always with an emoji or 10 it’s become
an inherent part of culture… the shock to my Generation X system was
immense, its been a huge mindset change for me as an HR pro who was brought up in the corporate world

Love this Natasha excellent observation!

💯 % it’s a constant tightrope which is more noticeable i think in SME’s but that might be because it’s more visible maybe? #HRHour

Now there is a question - on a simple general level it does both. If the tasks delegated have been done in a way that has been super helpful and those receiving the tasks feel supported etc, then they should theoretically help solve those problems. If not then we have helped create issues #HRHour

But agree with Sharon unlikely to ever be fully ditched in many orgs.
March 6, 2025 at 8:33 PM
We ditched the annual performance review a couple of year ago I detest them.. we now have 1-1’s on request of employee & quarterly catch ups led by manager in a relatively informal setting etc. as long as people know how they are performing, the opport. to discuss support, dev, career etc. #HRHour

I can imagine it’s a combination of depending on what frameworks, tools and support they have provided to the authors..? HRHour

or great minds @sharongchiara.bsky.social 😉
March 6, 2025 at 8:21 PM
yes good point - guess depending on how that is set up within the organisation but should certainly have a lot of input in salary and bonus review.. benefits not always possible #HRHour

Managing their people in respect of performance, absence and disciplinary, along with arranging tech support / training as a starting point.. the end 😉 #HRHour

thank you! 🤩

Good point.. You would hope so eh? However in the real world we deal with humans who can be complex - but this is of course where HR & Dev can support & help managers to develop their people. I’m being v positive this evening 😉#HRHour
January 30, 2025 at 8:51 PM
has it? I just know I would need a mix of ways to interest me using tech - some bedtime reading for HD me thinks 🤦‍♀️#HRHour

If however, there were people stating the lack of opportunity but with it comes poor attitude and demeanour (we always get the odd one) would not invest in development other than to improve performance.. #HRHour
January 30, 2025 at 8:43 PM
Generally I would say yes. We are not all large businesses and therefore cannot offer the same type of opportunities internally.
But what we can do is invest in development to get the best out of people whilst they are with us to enable them to move on when the time is right #HRHour

Sorry late to the party… 🥳
- Tailor-made content to support personal rather than generic
- Access technology that appeals to different styles of learning (VAK) that’s personal and useful to the person.
