#WIPSnips Like, Mani's whole thing is cards, I HAD to do this one 😆

By no exaggeration, Mani had been doing great all afternoon, pulling plays like a fiend on fire while Lady Luck sang in his ear. Well into the evening, her voice had been harmonizing elegantly with the concert piano that serenaded the Gold Room lounge, while Mani’s cards conjured him a surplus that almost doubled the five grand he’d walked in with. Then at some point, Lady Luck had packed up her mic and exited the venue. After that, Mani’s chips had the audacity to start depleting hand after hand, and by the third hour, he only had a few measly stacks left. This had not been part of the plan.

#WIPSnips Searching for the term "spin" has shown me the ridiculous number of times I've used the word "spine" in this WIP lol.

Today's snippet is a harrowing scramble to survive hostile waters...!

Half swimming and running, Rocío reached and grabbed the arm handle of the open driver’s door of the truck. She gasped and sputtered, her sinuses pierced with an oily mildew smell as she clung tightly to the door handle. Adjusting her grip as the water rushed around her, Rocío tensed her arms and pulled up, but before she could lift into the seat, another monumental wave swelled. It hit and sent the truck spinning, flinging Rocío aside and resubmerging her instantly. The world flipped as she tumbled across the ground before being sharply drawn backward again.

It’s absurdly dangerous, and I cannot understand why you insist on doing it.” Rocío stopped and spun onto her. “Oh, stop, Ellie, you’re such a hypocrite!”

Mani jumped away, spinning to face it in time to see a narrow head looming upward. It wasn’t a boulder. The thing was a living silhouette. Its long head was topped with several split horns. Settled on a pair of clawed limbs like a forearmed snake, the thing fixed its gaze onto Mani with a pair of eyes that beamed at him like a set of vehicle headlights.

The unmistakable sheen of its silver that flashed out of Mani’s grasp caught Rocío’s eye, and she gasped.

We’d time each other. Had this insane track set up.” He leaned forward and gestured as he spoke. “We’d take turns driving around barrels or going over these crazy mounds; the whole car would get caked in dust.”

It was the smell that had brought the demon to the flat stone.

Let’s see if we can fix that,” the Fae nurse replied. Her voice was a bit buggy, yet it matched her perfectly. Likely because of those bright green eyes of hers. She also had freckles, and that just wasn’t fair. This Fae gal was simply adorable.

Practicing sigils while hiding in an empty meeting room was not quite an activity that would serve confidence to her peers.
