Support: A sober spotter, self check-ins after sessions, supportive healthcare provider

(5/8) It’s not about the specific drugs; it’s about how someone feels and functions in relation to their use. Remember: Drug use exists on a continuum, and everyone's relationship to drugs and s*x is different.

(4/8) Is it safe? With access to accurate harm reduction information, safer use supplies, and support, it can be. Chems*x can become harmful when it leads to distress, disconnection, or a sense of loss of control.

(3/8) Queer & trans people have many reasons for wanting to use dr*gs in their sx lives. Ex: Enhance pleasure, feel better in our bodies/identities, Improve endurance during sessions, Deal w/ stigma, (fatphobia, racism, & transphobia), provide safety & comfort w/ SW clients.

(2/8) Chems*x is using dr*gs to enhance or facilitate s*xual experiences. Substance use is a part of many queer + trans people’s s*x lives in different ways–from pleasure and endurance to survival and coping. Chems*x can include multiple types of drugs and ways of using them.
