After aimlessly scrolling social media and reading how "nobody wants to live in a commune anymore" I made a comic.

My mother was an organizer and so am I. Hosting parties doesn't need to be hard. Pick a park, invite 30 people you barely know, maybe 10 show up. But you have 10 people in a party!

Comic of a job interview. Text: in a paper called "the aesthetics of work readiness:aesthetic judgements and pedagogies for conditional welfare amd post-fordist labour markets" the writers describe a 2015 legistlation from netherlands, where job seekers could be sanctioned if they didn't look presentable when applying for work. Things mentioned most often as basis for sanctions: sandals, cleavages and body odor.

Text: only one of those things is something one can choose. Comic, woman with large chest says "this is a normal t-shirt. You can't hold these girls". Comic, man is nervous and says "i got so nervous that I got sweaty. I can't help it. Comic about a beautiful person. Text: when I was young I thought I'd never have plastic surgery. But I was beautiful.

Comic of an empty face gaining features. Text: now I look old and that's not easy for me. I dream of a more general face that I don't have to think of. I don't hate my face. I don't even dislike it. But I don't want people to see it. And that makes my feelings conflicted.

Text: in a paper "beauty and the labour market" daniel hamermesh and jeff biddle tell thay plain looking people earn 5-10% less than good looking people. This applies to both men and women. The same guy also did a paper with jason abrevaya, in that ine they tell "beauty raises happiness on both men and women". These effects are often subconscious. Peoplw don't necessarily try to act unfairly. But what if they did?

Comic of very beautiful people. Text: In 1972 Karen dion, ellen berscheid and elaine walster did a study "what is beautiful is good". In the study they made 60 students evaluate people based on photos. They evaluated the beautiful as better partners, having better jobs, being more kind, stable, genuine, modest, strong etc. Only thing they were ecvaluated as worst was parenting.

Text: maybe they thought the beautiful are too self absorbed to be good parents. Just guessing. The article didn't mention a reason. Another study by david landy and harold sigall made 60 male undergraduates grade essays. Some only got the essay. Some got a photo of an attractive writer. And some of an unattractive writer. The essays were identical.

Comic of person grading essays. Text: if you guessed they gave the best grades to attractive writers, you're right. The research event tried this with bad essays. In that one the bias for the attractive writer was even bigger. There's a lot of research like this. Too many to draw here. So I'll just give you a few more examples.

I made a comic about beauty as a capital in my first year of studying social sciences. It's 11 pages (+sources) this this will be a thread. Nowadays my view on my looks isn't as negative but I'm still insecure about it.

Comic. Person looks tired. Text: I look this tired every day. This might surprise you but I'm very uncomfortable with my looks. I avoid looking in the mirror when I go to toilet. Covid was a great reason to not think of my looks.

Comic, person does make up. Text: I bought a concealer serum. It makes me feel better. But I have to admit I dream of having money for fillers. I try to be body neutral. Positive is too much. Such intense love for one's body seems fake. I know I'm smart, funny and kind. I like my body. I'm strong and my shoulders are nice and wide... but my face.

Text: my face exists. If I don't think about it I'm ok. But recently I've had to think about it a lot. I started studying and I'm older than most others. They keep commenting.
Comic, blonde young woman says "Wow, you don't look 35!" Text: it's a compliment.

Comic, person with no face. Text: but it makes me feel horrible because it reminds me of the fact that people see me. I don't want to be seen. I used to make youtube videos, but I stopped. When trying to continue, I can't do it. People say "nobody cares about uour looks". They're right and wrong. 1) yes, people who care about me don't care. 2) but I care. 3) research says looks determine a lot of how you're treated in our society. Let's look into the research.

Ai te tykkäsitte siitä saavutettavuussarjiksesta? No mulla on toinenkin, jonka tein about vuosi sitten vihaisena siitä, että saan samoissa vessoissa availla noiden narujen solmuja uudelleen ja uudelleen. Tästä pitäis tehdä joku tarra, jonka vois liimata seinään jos vessan naru on aina solmussa.

Hahmo osoittaa wc hälyttimen narua joka on solmussa. Teksti: tämä naru voi tappaa.

Sarjakuva, jossa hahmo kertoo: tämä on hätäkutsujärjestelmän vetonaru. Usein näen narun sidottuna tällaiseksi myyyksi. Mitä jos saisin sairauskohtauksen ja kaatuisin? Tämän narun pitää ulottua lähelle lattiaa, että siihen yltää hätätilanteessa. Jos sen sitoo myttyyn, ei vessa ole enää saavutettava. Korjatkaa asia!

Kevät tulee ja on aika julkaista tämä hyvä vanha sarjis. Talvella pyörätuolilla liikkumista vaikeuttaa lumipenkereet ja jää, muulloin kaikki ihme roska, mitä jätetään jalkakäytäville. Sähköpotkulaudat on erityisen vaikeita siirtää ja aina pitkin poikin! Ottakaa muitakin huomioon tänä keväänä.
