It’s been clear for sometime that the Hall has had trouble judging players who played in the relatively lower power era of the 70s-mid ‘80s where someone could lead the league with 35 homers. Between 1965 and 1995 only 3 players hit more than 50. Since 1995, more than 30 have.

Rice reportedly had his eyesight deteriorate significantly in his 30s, but also had issues with glasses/contacts (either he couldn’t or wouldn’t wear them)

You can sort of see where they might be considering some kind of hybrid between a Alamo Drafthouse/Dave and Buster’s type experience, but that would be very expensive.

My guess is that he’s hoping that this will give him a win on the affordability question, but it also flies in the face of having rolled back mileage standards…uh…yesterday?

Anecdotally, a guy I went to high school with made a very public move to Florida basically for anti-anti-Covid reasons in 2021 ended up moving back to his very blue home state this year due to lack of educational support for his kids.

My guess is that Netflix’s future “prestige tv” offerings get rebranded as HBO alongside the legacy content. And they get a number of big franchise IPs (Harry Potter, ASOIAF, DC) that has largely eluded Netflix’s in-house originals outside of Stranger Things.

The struggles of the Belichick tree outside New England might end up being a result of Bill subconsciously cultivating certain personality types (let’s say aloof) that struggle when trying to implement that same environment elsewhere without his track record of success.

There was a whole discourse about the Totenkoof when members of the Azov Battalion had it as a patch, where it was (rightfully) condemned.

Still pretty wild that the Hobbit experience was so draining that Jackson went into semi-retirement.

There was a private middle school near where I grew up that had tackle intramural teams but they didn't use masks, feeling that the players would naturally avoid headhunting.

I’d love a prestige TV take on Grant’s world tour after leaving office, where he met every famous person of the era. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_t...

The anti-vax stuff made him relevant in a way that he was never going to be as an environmental lawyer. The drug arrests meant that he couldn’t realistically get involved in the family business, so he had to find another way in.

The first was the basically the unicorn of unicorns, a hard mil sci-fi show with broadcast tv budget. The second was the greatest sitcom of the 2010s, cruelly underrated.

In 1978, Chuck Fairbanks secretly accepted the Colorado job while coaching the New England Patriots, who were the 2 seed in the AFC. The owner, Billy Sullivan, suspended him for the regular season finale before reinstating him for the playoffs, where they were crushed by the Oilers.

He’s really stuck because he made a bet that the economy would take off mostly due to his just being there and that he could just BS his way through any other bumps in the road. But Epstein and inflation are exactly the kind of thing that breaks through to people who don’t pay attention to politics.
