"Ride in Style to Protest"

It's fun getting a peek behind the curtain.

How do NIMBYs organize protests?
September 24, 2025 at 7:15 PM
Well that's a new one.

ChatGPT just slipped into Persian, replacing the word "project" with پروژه

The government used to have rental registries. And badass posters.

I'm working on an interview with an 84 year old who is rebuilding her home in Altadena (west of Lake), and it's just devastating to find the redlining maps that were in effect when she was born. This stuff isn't ancient history. It's living memory.

Facebook requires me to manually filter all these bot accounts out one at a time :(

I'll do you one better *gasp*

ChatGPT says it's Tuesday.

It's working

All of it. At once.

My favorite YIMBY is this kid. Attends all the events. Very attentive. Very progressive views on middle housing.

The mom's cool too @sonjatrauss.bsky.social

It's time to hop in and support missing middle housing ordinance and CM Kesarwani's amendment

Everybody is so busy screaming about bonus ADUs in San Diego that they missed the important news: SD just approved the separate sale of ADUs (including bonus ADUs).

Kudos to @acbowen.bsky.social for being the only reporter I found who mentioned the separate sale amendment.

"This bike lane on Fairmount that I have not seen one bike on this week" fox5sandiego.com/news/local-n...

"This myth that people are going to ride the bus...spare us the insult"

I like it when they just say what they're really thinking.

paraphrasing the sign: 'My beautiful view is more important than building enough homes for the city.'

It's a good pun on Linda Vista, but it's also sort of bonkers that we say it's about
June 17, 2025 at 12:12 AM
Lots of support for separate sale of ADUs as starter homes.

But those signs behind them are still arguing for NO bonus ADUs at all.
June 16, 2025 at 11:39 PM
I actually find this argument compelling:
-ADUs need to be secondary to the primary use of the property
-ADUs get CEQA exemption and that may not be appropriate for a project over a certain size (when 'unlimited' is greater than x)
-cumulative impacts get measured together

We're getting to the part of the meeting where a speaker doxes some of the developers.

The describe the business model in a way that I have to admit is pretty snappy. "If you've got a big backyard, they snap it up"
June 16, 2025 at 10:35 PM
These units are "killing generational wealth while not providing parking...the main amenity of parking, many of them have not provided...Lack of Parking!"

Man, you'd think this is a meeting about a parking crisis.
June 16, 2025 at 10:19 PM
Mission Beach requesting it be exempt from adding these types of ADUs.

Says there's no space. Now, if that's true, then nobody will be able to get ADUs permitted. So why complain?

Aha, about 2 minutes in, he gets to the parking. There IS room for ADUs. And they're being developed without parking.

I think one proposed change to the program is particularly telling.

It's in these slides.

Essentially, this program works and is creating affordable housing.

Can you spot it?
June 16, 2025 at 10:07 PM
Alllll of the hubbub is about 60ish projects with more than 7 ADUs on one lot
June 16, 2025 at 9:46 PM
I like this slide. Reminder that the city has permitted 5,720 ADUs with 90% of projects producing 1-3 ADU homes
June 16, 2025 at 9:44 PM
Item 202 is now up. Staff report should be good. They say it's going to take about 25 minutes.
June 16, 2025 at 9:42 PM
Third public speaker of the afternoon thinks they are on shark tank. Pitching the parks and rec on a new holiday light.

Public Comment. Wow.
June 16, 2025 at 9:32 PM
Alright... they're in the first agenda items and ADUs should come up shortly after that. Here we go!
June 16, 2025 at 9:20 PM
This is a very sad "bus stop" outside of Denver.

Sign post beside a curbless, gutter with no sidewalk. :(

California's ADU Amnesty law - how is it actually being implemented?

I do a side by side comparison of the best and worst jurisdictions in the latest video on the channel.

Spoilers: NIMBYs be NIMBYing.
