I adopted Jinx with FIV. He unfortunately died within the year. There were no issues with any of my other pets, just he got really sick and the vet gave him meds that caused a reaction. I’ve never had a cat like Jinx in my whole life. It was the most special pet relationship of my life to date.

Directed IP for years -working w/ Sevis to grant I-20s Aside from the ridiculousness of this press release & authoritarian Sevis revocation this will harm the entire industry — already shaky from Trump’s xenophobic rhetoric and policies. I fear for the students I helped study here (mostly from PRC)

I loved every minute of it! Other than Andor (and limited-series Shogun)— it’s on the short list for best TV shows of the last 5 years.

Watched it all and loved every second of it. It definitely takes analysis work and an eye for detail. Not the show to casually watch and expect to enjoy. But for the people who love to hyper fixate on small details— it’s great!

Had it for the first time 3 years ago in Boston (of all places) and felt the same way! In a weird turn of events a new Detroit Style Pizza place opened down the block from me (in suburbs of Chicago) just 3 months after first being introduced to it.

Reading “The Sports Gene”which discusses the genetics of physical advantage & as such touches on athletes w/ DSD. It opened my mind to thinking about sex development as far more complex & on a spectrum —it unbridled me from binary thinking. Then Katie Couric did a series called “Gender Revolution”

Wherein Jesse Watters expeditiously embraces the “me, too” movement for the first (and only) time . . .

I just think you should travel to eastern countries and see for yourself— there’s a lot of nuance to it that one can’t grasp until one visits a different culture. As a neurodivergent person myself I felt way way more comfortable in China than here. They have a more tolerance for quirky smart people

I have collaboration with China still and have a transgender child — young adult now. He’s going there this summer and we are both not worried at all. More tolerant there than here in the USA at the moment

measure should be happiness and by that measure Chinese people are doing fine and Gay people live freely in China. I agree they should have full rights and I think they will soon as they do in Taiwan. But gay people in China are fairly accepted- there are gay bars etc. it’s changing fast I have hope

They don’t work for slave wages. I lived there for 10 years. They have good quality of life and wages in the time I was there doubled then doubled again. You might just want to get out and see the world more with your own eyes. I’m very aware of the injustices of the Chinese government as well.

Freedom to you might not be freedom to others (freedom to vs freedom from). You must understand the huge difference between western and eastern ideas of freedom Westerners value individualism while eastern cultures value collectivism Big difference in world views and expectations for idea expression

Some comparison. Except the point is that China has truly delivered on a better quality of life so the people are happy. They feel as if the government control is worth it & they aren’t wrong- China has delivered for the people. Yeah there are problems but overall life has improved for everyone.
April 13, 2025 at 9:45 PM
Because it isn’t that oppressive. What you hear is mostly amped up stories that don’t provide a full picture. Most people have limited interaction with government and life a life that feels as free as yours does. As long as one doesn’t take on divisive issues life there is really good.

It’s more complicated than your caricature provides I lived in CN for years & for average people life is pretty great Most Chinese people are happy with their government & their quality of life. I recognize the Chinese government has done terrible things but has also delivered better for its people

Same —lived in Shenzhen for 10 years. I moved there when they were building the rail line. Incredible development. Beautiful result. Totally impressive. Loved living there. Most American don’t realize how nice it is there. That the quality of life is better overall.
April 13, 2025 at 9:27 PM
I agree-I lived there for 10
Years but in terms of using the wealth gains made by the country & delivering those gains over to the people— improving lives, quality of living, tech development to be proud of— he’s spot on. Most people in China — even eyes wide open—are happy with their government.

I lived in China for 10 years & corroborate most of what he says China while authoritarian has been more competent in terms of delivering results for the people Americans would be shocked at how awesome cities are in China But don’t pretend that China doesn’t have its own huge corruption issues too!
