Ahaha that'd be me

I use Esri stuff at work and QGIS at home and for my consulting work. I don't plan to spend a penny on COTS again 😁

Not open source as in software, open source as in intelligence. Being that it's publicly available (if even if closed source code) it qualifies as open source intelligence

Well done! This is fascinating. I'd be curious to see this same graphic, but for the American East, and how the two compare.

I definitely will! Trying really hard not to impose GIS on her, it's a struggle... 😆

About to graduate UCD, from the EPAP program. She's just getting started with QGIS ☺️

Awesome thank you. Btw my daughter saw some of your materials on QGIS today in one of her classes

I don't "hate" Pro, but when you compare your ROI (ArcPro vs QGIS) Pro looks like a rip-off, especially considering there are tasks that I have to do in QGIS because they'll force Pro to crash 🤷‍♂️

Since we're talking about Pro and QGIS in the same space... I'm convinced that esri 'borrowed' some of the best UX aspects of QGIS for Pro. Pro is an improvement over ArcMap but takes some time to get used to and seems to be more of a resource hog too. If it weren't for my day job I'd be 100% QGIS 😉

@micheletobias.bsky.social I love this!! I'd love to do this for GIS Day in November (I'm in Napa) and would really like to learn more about your workshop 🤩

Yes! So that's helpful, and plus I'm going to want to eventually choose my own colors anyway. Half the time I'm going to process and transform the loaded data into something else, so I don't really care what color it loads as, just as long as it's discernable from everything else!

It says you can't be messaged 😔

Sean, this sounds awesome. Would love the code if you could 🙂

Ahaha so true! I've found that the most proficient ArcGIS user is someone who is good in QGIS as well. Ok, and maybe a little Python too ..

I switched to Linux and QGIS years ago and absolutely love it. Never going back!!!

Knowing both has worked out best for me. Like it or not, knowledge of esri products makes you more employable, at least in the US. But I prefer to work in QGIS, and there are times when ArcGIS Pro can't handle certain processing-heavy tasks but QGIS will do them easily 🤷‍♂️
