I lived in town when this tragedy happened and it was devastating for the local community. Isabel was jogging by the golf course with friends and was mauled by a bear. With Canmore's silvertip area being in a wildlife corridor, even an experienced adventurer like Isabel was not immune.

I agree that it will be good for the city once it is built and look forward to attending. However, if we look at the proposed budget and budget cuts, how many programs were sacrificed for this one complex? Many eggs have been placed in one basket.

This information rocked the gymnastics world around the world to it's core. It is both shocking and disgusting. This media coverage opened the door more brave people to come forward about abuse, especially coach abuse. Especially in Canada, though not as publicized. #SafeSport

Even the early levels of competition, I have had to ask some parents not too stay and watch. Why? Coaching from the sidelines and contradicting coaches processes. This is hard enough and I couldn't imagine being physically attacked while doing my job. I have been cornered &verbally attacked though.

This is an older article, but Diaz is the first athlete that I remember as openly advocating for cannabis use for athletes on television. Primarily CBD, for it's recovery benefits and next for for relaxation. He opens up about his financial stake in the industry.

Nate Diaz says he ‘banked out in the cannabis industry’ after UFC 202 vape pen incident
USADA had an issue with Nate Diaz vaping cannabis at the UFC 202 post-fight press conference, but it more than worked out for Diaz, he said.

Cormier was build for power, not speed. Imagine feeling the full weight of his body, in his fists. If you look at his win record and the different body styles of the champion fighters he won against, you can see that he used his body type to his advantage. No need to change what was working for him.

I appreciated that there was always an emphasis on the work that they 'could' do rather than the work they 'could not' do, in the training plan. Maintaining strength and flexibility so the athletes could return to regular training safely. This care doesn't have to just be at the elite level.

My old gymnastics club had an in house physiotherapist who specialized in gymnastics injuries. This service was for all competitive athletes regardless of their level. She understood the progressions for skills and communicated openly with us about her return to training plan. calgaryyouthphysio.com

I blew out my ACL on tumble track, which is a very long trampoline. I was not competing, but coaching and my knee blew in the hurdle entry to do a handspring. I didn't lose a sport contract but it did affect my coaching career for a time (+/-) and I became fearful of activities I had once loved.

I was a 'tape and go' athlete. If it wasn't broken, I kept playing if I could. I can remember most of the significant injuries, as they are all creeping up on me now. Gymnastics, rugby, track and field, basketball, volley ball, soft ball...I didn't want to let myself or my team down. #Noregrets❤️

The media went crazy over this! Knitting is relaxing once you get the hang of it. You can see that he is at peace, in this moment by his body language. Relaxed shoulders, and oblivious to the fact that he's surrounded by people and being filmed. A great way to find your center, regardless of gender.

Harry Garside is an Australian boxer and Olympic Medalist, who challenged male gender norms by wearing dresses and skirts. "Being in a masculine very male dominated sport, it raises a few eyebrows. It is different." Garside identifies as straight but is a strong advocate for the LGBTQ community.

I love the message "don't be afraid to try out a sport even if you don't see someone that looks like you". I am inspired by Sitaye, who at a young age is actively making change in her community and the lives of other youth. Using her experiences and successes in youth sports to break down barriers.

Working with children in a physical setting can be very physically taxing, but very rewarding. I like that you are content to include walks into your plan. We don't always have to 'gym hard' to reap the benefits of exercise. Walking is great for the heart, mental health and overall stress release!

My FT career was coaching gymnastics, so I was quite active but not for personal gain. It was difficult for me to stick to a personal program or rec activities after a demanding physical day. My future FT career will be in PE. This will inspire, maintain and promote daily activity goals, as I age.

This is a great idea. In Calgary, all grade 6's are offered free admission at the YMCA.

"Program Highlights
Free YMCA membership: Valid for the entire Grade six school year. August 1, 2025 - August 31, 2026.
Access to all locations: Kids can visit any YMCA Calgary location independently. "

The CanGym program is an example of how to make youth activity fun as well as safer. When participants are offered more opportunity and time to prepare for the more difficult skills, they also have more opportunity to achieve multiple goals/wins along the way. #confidencebuilding #progressionsrock

This article connects with feminist theory. Why is the "sexualized" fit of the suit (high cut at hip) a requirement? Leotards should "should leave room for female bodies as they age and change". *Traditionally, men wear both long pants/ shorts over their singlets at comps.

Individual skills can be practiced in a leisure setting (cartwheels in the grass) yet this would not be participating in the sport of gymnastics, it would just be 'doing cartwheels'.

Gymnastics, as a whole, is considered a sport. Yet, it is broken down into varying difficulty levels such as Kinder (introductory, structured, learn through 'playing gymnastics'), Recreational (which is structured, yet still fun) and Competitive (varies in difficulty level).
