Husband, father, archivist, information manager, cricket umpire, sunny optimist. Not necessarily in that order...
In session tonight we have new tracks from Ivee Gedell and the Ferrets. But first here’s the Mighty Fall.

In Britain, this is a tank top. What you’re talking about is a vest!

What’s your dancing style like?

Sometimes, Bluesky just delivers.

Repost with one of the greatest villains in cinema history.

@vizcomic.bsky.social I don’t think they’ve understood at all what the story of a faithful bin liner is all about.

Day 28

Poor Van is often poorly served by his album covers. See for example “His Band And Street Choir” or “Veedon Fleece”. Rule is generally the better the album, the worse the sleeve. This gridded beauty is the chief exception to that rule.

Day 27

My last Blue Note post for this month’s challenge. I like the subtlety of the italicised name. Astonishing that this great album was recorded just 2 days after Go.

Day 26

We’ve spoken before about grids in sleeve design. This one from Bobby Bland’s debut is pretty good.

Day 25

Another Blue Note classic design. Captures the joy of jazz, the joy of the drums, just joy.

Day 24

Alongside Blue Note, my favourite record company has always been Island. Island covers were often thin stuff though. This was something of an exception.

Day 23

Sometimes Blue Note clothed albums that were ok but nothing better in the most dazzling and brilliant sleeves. But often the content matched the cover.

The Lady Vanishes… for the desperate attempts to find the score in the Test Match.

Day 22

A contrast to yesterday’s Blue Note cover where the artist is the focus - Gabriel’s early album covers tend to hide him away. This is the best cover of the four PG albums, imho.

Day 21

Back to Blue Note. The best known Joe Henderson BN cover is probably “In ‘N’ Out” - but I like this one better. An uncoloured tricolour flag of a sleeve.

Day 20

I like the insignificance of the good Doctor on this sleeve.

Day 19

Back to Blue Note for another classic. We’re tricked into thinking it’s a piano but that’s not what they look like. Is it a depressed trumpet key? I think so.

Day 18

Who needs a copy of “Face Value” to look at when you could be looking at “I Haven’t Got Anything Better To Do”? That single year says so much.

Day 17

One of my own favourite Blue Note covers. Clever idea and very simple. Sticks to all the house style rules.

Day 16

Sleeves with gadgets is a whole other music challenge. Often they’re too clever by half and serve to detract from the content. Not this one, which is cool as you like and beautifully designed. Wish I had a copy that hinged open.
