wicked activity happens here
Issa at this stage, age 29, (Saturn return cycle) is running a race that doesn’t truly exist. Throughout the episode, her concerns about her age meant that after next year, if she’s not married and established, her world is over. When in fact, it was RLY about to begin.

So in order to feel, she chases. Searching the ends of the earth of the storybook love that she so desperately seeks. But the love she needs to seek is herself. In turn, she lies to her friends and herself about the truth to ease the wound. Bc for Molly, admitting you cared more meant you’re weak.

Molly’s character is interesting; on my first watch I thought, “damn Molly’s got it good fr! Good career, house, & no kids! She just wants someone to share it with.” Except part of the biggest character highlight is her incessant need for validation in order to feel worthy of being seen and loved.

These characters, all experience growth, pain, & betrayal. Issa & Molly did this to themselves & each other throughout this first episode. These two have individual problems with being honest with themselves, therefore living lives that aren’t true to them. They render themselves jealous & spiteful.

With that being said, coming back to this with the understanding of Issa’s intention was to highlight these everyday experiences of regular people in such a distinctive lens makes it easier for me to watch. This isn’t just a binge watch for leisure (tho it totally is); it’s also part of my lesson.

I’m really glad I restarted this show at this point in my life. My first watch failed in ‘22 after 2 episodes because I couldn’t handle how the choices of these characters affected each other’s lives & their own. Watching people fail, lie, cheat, & betray themselves painful to watch
