Houston’s “civility ordinance” against sitting or sleeping on sidewalks comes under more scrutiny for its treatment of the homeless. One woman got more than 780 tickets, adding up to nearly $200,000 in fines, from 2016 thru 2025.

Are we just kicking people around more than helping them?

Act like you live in a democracy - because you still do. 💯🧵
My mistake has been trying to explain what "fascism" is to people who don't care what it is.

So I'm going to try something else. Let's do this as a practical thought exercise.

If America *were* fascist *today* - what would you have to do differently in your daily life? /1

If you're a professor at Texas A&M, you'll need to receive written authorization from the university president before discussing this incident on campus.

Dreamers were once obvious candidates for a path to citizenship. Now, they’re getting picked up, detained, and set for potential deportation.
Then they came for the Dreamers
Immigrants brought here as children were told they wouldn’t be deported. Now, they’re being targeted anyway.

Houston may have a new congressperson for TX-18 as early as Nov 5th – if a run-off is not necessary. But will they be sworn-in?

Stephen Miller better be careful. His nose is so brown he might end-up being profiled and deported. 😏

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

It’s almost time. In preparation, since we’re in Texas and it’s still 90 degrees out, make sure you drink lots of water, bring snacks, wear sunscreen and bug repellant. Stay safe. If you feel unwell or you see someone else needing help, look for a medic or go to a booth. Photo Credit: Nora Dayton

Data shows Administration's claims on renewables are wrong, states with higher shares of renewables typically have lower electricity costs. Markets are choosing renewables based on price.

Resistance is NOT a one lane highway.
Maybe your lane’s protesting, Maybe your lane’s organizing, Maybe your lane’s art activism, Maybe your lane’s surviving the day. DON’T feel guilty for not occupying every lane. DON’T shame another lane for not occupying yours. We need all of them. #BeSomeone
