I’m not implying that conservation at all. My point is that the optics on this are crazy, and I’m agreeing with Pat that the NBA having a more transparent process would be a good thing.

It’s very disappointing to those of us in markets that never have contending teams (I’m a Wizards fan). We’re building the right way, it just doesn’t feel great tonight.

Dallas traded a 25 year old franchise star to the Lakers for a very low return, and just won the lottery and another franchise player with 1.8% odds. It’s ok if you’re cool with that, but you can’t deny it’s really weird.

Even if it was all above board, awarding good teams who underachieve over teams that are struggling and can’t compete should tell the NBA the lottery system isn’t working. There’s really no reason play-in teams should be in the lottery.

This is one of those ideas that sounds pro-player in theory but in reality it would end up hurting players who have remaining eligibility.
