I've personally used a basic video series by Piximperfect for Photoshop and thought it was good for understanding the basic systems, I spaced them out between days to emulate a course. For getting creative with it, I just usually look up dedicated guides later.

The map is a glorified level select that design wise wastes your time. It doesn't really add much to the experience other than vibes. You can't strategize paths and it only exists gameplay wise to maybe to encourage you to do side quests while you wait.

Obviously Sonic was just dissociating himself as his alter ego to avoid having to acknowledge the plot. Either that or he had a stroke. Tough choice honestly...
