During the pandemic, the US implemented the most effective social welfare policies in our history -- programs that worked because they were big enough, simple, and universal. And then we withdrew them. This remains imo the central economic-policy story of our times. davisvanguard.org/2025/05/3hou...

DOGE is so monumentally stupid, it sends Hank Green on expletive-laden tirade.

This isn't checkers, it isn't chess, it's untargeted destruction for the sake of destruction. It's a child throwing a tantrum with the governmental tools of our economy.

Well now...

TL;DR - My Master Promissory Note (and yours) says I will pay the Dept. of Education, it is not enforceable by any other entity. It can be "serviced" by others, but without the ED behind them, it's a legal breach of contract.
Every Student Loan is now "Forgiven" thanks to Trump.
I'll give the Orangutan this... he's finally accomplished something nobody (including Biden) could... he forgave every student loan out there (and then some.)

As predicted, women in New Hampshire had a hard time voting yesterday because of the new proof of citizenship law:

“It doesn’t have my married name on it,” she said. Town voting officials then sent her away a second time, to get her marriage certificate.

NH’s new ID requirements send some would-be voters home to grab passports, birth certificates
The law requires all new voters to show proof of their U.S. citizenship. For some, that meant making multiple trips to and from the polls before finally casting a ballot on Tuesday.
