Next Saturday 11th October, I'll be travelling up to Barnsley to deliver a lecture for the wonderful Hapy Egyptology Society. This lecture will be an overview to my work on disability in Ancient Egypt, focusing primarily on what we can tell about the ancient Egyptian's attitudes towards disability.
The Hapy Egyptology Society Attitudes to Disability in Ancient Egypt Born with Cerebral Palsy, Kyle Jordan has been passionate about ancient Egypt from an early age. He completed his masters degree at University College London, where his thesis explored the use and significance of disabled bodies within early societies in Egypt. The many lectures he has given have proven to be thought-provoking, occasionally funny and often moving. Had the absolute pleasure today of going to New York University's London Campus to deliver two guest lectures to Dr. Alexandra Lee's students on Medicine, Health and Disability in Ancient Egypt.

I've been fortunate enough to come back and lecture for multiple years now. Always a pleasure. :)

Had a really lovely time at the 30th Social History of Learning Disability (SHLD) Conference at @openuniversity.bsky.social yesterday. Great conversations around community-centred and led approaches to social history and activism. Thanks so much for letting me bring the ancient world into the mix!

The conference programme page for a workshop titled "Is this allowed? How can we respectfully research Disability History?" led by Sólveig Ólafsdóttir, Simon Jarrett, Nathaniel Lawford, Eliph Hadert and Kyle Jordan. Kyle's speaker biography in the conference programme, which explains his background in archaeology and museums and his interest in disability in the ancient world. A Polaroid of Kyle holding a whiteboard with a pink border at the bottom that reads "To Love and Be Loved" (one of Learning Disability England's five core pledges for improving the lives of Learning Disabled people), and on it in black ink Kyle has written the message: "As a museum curator, I think it's important that disabled people's voices be included in public spaces, being celebrated and loved. Had a great time speaking last night to the Archaeology and Heritage Circle of the National Liberal Club. We explored what it means to do an Archaeology of Disability, and some evidences and stories from Egypt, Greece and Rome.

The best bit: the reflections and self realisations from the audience.

Had a lovely evening in St Alban's celebrating the launch of my new exhibition. It was lovely getting to see it all in person for the first time, admiring the beautiful illustrations by @flaroh.bsky.social, and celebrate with all the team and contributors for this remarkable achievement. Very proud!
A stand in the entrance to the Verulamium Museum full of various access guides, including Braille, Large Print and Easy Read. The introduction panel to the exhibition, explaining the aims of the exhibit and displaying a male figure walking across a landscape with a walking stick and bandaged leg. A panel titled "In Our Hands", which explains the involvement of the co-production group, and is accompanied by an illustration of the mythological character of Pandora, holding a butterfly, which symbolises hope. My label displayed next to a contemporary object, depicting an illustration of a nurses badge from an old psychiatric hospital, bearing the image of Pandora opening the box. The label explains how the myth is about the vulnerabilities of humanity and how through them we can understand more about ourselves.
