Some people suspect people without profile info. But I'm just here to read some great posts, & sometimes reply. I don't really have content. (Confidential to HRJ: I didn't mean for you to make a strapless silk evening gown!)
"The Hole Man", Larry Niven, 1974, Hugo for best short story.

FORBIDDEN SYMMETRIES sounds like a science-fiction romance novel.

There's a special adapter that usually is needed, according to www.clickykeyboards.com That's where I got the adapter. Someone in this subthread mentioned that someone has cloned the IBM Model M.

It now says "Removed by author", so presumably they slunk off in shame or something.

And craniometry, which may be more applicable here. Apparently there was controversy about the book, but it certainly made a splash & took a stand.

Background idea: I presume they're alluding to Stephen Jay Gould's *The Mismeasure of Man*, a non-fiction work on biological determinism, "worth can be assigned to individuals and groups by measuring intelligence as a single quantity" (a quote in Wikipedia). White supremacy via IQ test.

Are they a mascot for / paid by Hokkaido, or are they a freelance, just putting on a costume & rocking out?

Have you considered an IBM Model M? With the proper adapter. It's a classic. As durable as a boat anchor. As heavy as a boat anchor. I "liberated" two from IBM in the 1990s and one works fine (the other got a bit flaky after like 20-25 years of use). Sorry, I love to talk about it.

No no, I want questioning the list, just that bobcats & coyotes might be alarming (small to medium predators, after all).

Bobcat & coyote! 😯

My new car has a 1.9% dealer loan. My previous one I paid was something like 0.9%, and I then drove it until it was almost old enough to vote.

England?! Some Dutch prince or stadtholder sails into England and takes the whole place just like that? That could never happen, certainly out of the question by the 1600s!

Could you have an additional daily Anderson schedule? If it were expanded to stories, I expect it'd be a doddle.

Quantum mechanics indeed predicts that he'll interfere with himself & observing him doesn't change that.

To take that far too seriously: heraldic art in many cases tried to emphasize recognizability, with sets of distinct objects, stylized depictions, certain poses & orientations, a limited & distinguishable color palette, &c. Bow ties & those snacks would be rather hard to recognize.

One of the best is the late Queen Mum's family, whose surname before marriage was Bowes-Lyon. Wanna guess what two types of charge (meaning object) are on the coat of arms of the head of the family?
November 23, 2025 at 9:34 PM
In heraldry, "canting arms", a "cant" being a pun. The Lucy family in England inherited a lucy-fish on their arm. (Heraldic art often being sucky, how could you tell it was a lucy specifically? Great question!) The Talbot lords inherited a talbot (dog breed). (Same question? Same non-answer!)
