Just a quiet nerd doing my own thing.
I checked out after Black Flag, where the main character spent a fair bit of time trying escape from being the protagonist of an Assassin's Creed game.

Plus, the charm of "Historical Figure A is secretly a Templar, but oho, Historical Figure B is really an ASSASSIN" had long since worn thin.

The real Tsushima was the ghosts you made along the way.

Hmm, I did end up quitting Total War: Three Kingdoms shortly after Lu Bu refused to let me recruit and then marry him after capturing him as the bandit queen, so you might be onto something. Sometimes, you just want to pursue Lu Bu.

Planescape: Torment, the Pillars of Eternity games, the Owlcat Pathfinder games, and Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura are the first ones that come to mind.

There's an easier way to trigger that attack, though: When using Focus Mode (Left trigger), hit RB to trigger a focus strike. If that hits a wound, you'll grapple onto the monster and do a Heavenly Blade Dance.

Looks like because you were in demon or archdemon mode, one of the attacks you did while sliding down the incline triggered "Heavenly Blade Dance," the move where you did mean things to the monster's spine.

If I'm feeling burnt out, I switch to genres that I don't play as much to shake things up. If that doesn't work, I take a break for a while and catch up on some movies/shows/books.

Braveheart wasn't even the best movie about a disgruntled Scotsman that came out *that year.*

The Hyperkin Competitor was revealed last month, and it sounds like what you're after. I don't think there's a release date announced for it yet, though.

I don't think there's any single answer. You'd have to find out what sort of genres might appeal to the individual in question and go from there.

Also, if you're up for trying something more actiony, the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds has a free open beta coming up on the weekends of Feb 6-9 and 13-16, so you can see if it'd be something you're into. It also has co-op for up to 4 players.

The full game launches on Feb 28th.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a D&D 5e-based RPG that can be played online with a group of up to 4 players. The same people made Divinity Original Sin 2, which is another 1-4 player co-op RPG (but that isn't D&D based)

Sea of Stars is also a solid JRPG from a western dev.

Have a look to see if Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Persona 3 Reload, or Persona 5 appeal to you. As a heads-up, you might need to occasionally check a guide for the rougher bosses as a newcomer to SMT/Persona games.

Unless the port is terrible, Brutal Legend is on Steam. On sale for $3 USD, no less.

If you need an extra controller, those tend to run $50-70. New major games tend to be $60-70 when they are released, but indie games are often cheaper.

There aren't really "starter" consoles, you'll want to do a little looking into which one has the most games that appeal to you personally, or get the same one as any friends you want to play online with. The Switch is $300ish, Xbox or PS5 run $400-$500.
