“If you invite more cars, you get more cars. If you make more streets better for cars you get more traffic...If you invite people to walk more and use public spaces more, you get more life in the city. You get what you invite.” - Jan Gehl

Just another reason why we should build walkable communities.
Remember this one? Before & after of a brain after a 20 minute walk — why walking to work, or school, or just to get the intellectual juices flowing, is linked to better creative & intellectual performance. Among MANY other benefits to you and to society.

Design and build more walkable cities.

Remember this classic? Disney understood almost 75 years ago what too much driving (and bad suburban sprawl creating car dependancy specifically) can do to any of us. Watch “Motor Mania” from 1950, and ask yourself, are you a Mr. Walker or a Mr. Wheeler? #CarDependency #RoadRage youtu.be/mwPSIb3kt_4

This is amazing!
One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

The DNR is encouraging Minnesotans to get outside Friday and take advantage of free access to all Minnesota state parks and recreation areas.
Minnesota DNR to offer free admission to state parks on Friday after Thanksgiving
The DNR is in its 11th year of offering free entry. According to Sara Berhow, who is with the Parks and Trails division, the day started as an alternative to Black Friday shopping.

It would be reasonable to conclude that the 2 most inspirational cities in the world right now in city-building for people are Paris and Montreal. It might be the french culture for place-making and civic sociability. On the other hand, it might be about 2 progressive women mayors. #Hidalgo #Plante
