Finally for sure on making an investment on football. IU still has a ways to go on making the concessions more efficient and revenue-effective.

If you have time and a car and want some outdoor time other than the Mall, Great Falls is worthwhile.

State and local politicos on the left (at least) in red states have absolutely joined and supported that effort. They actively scoff at and undermine efforts to resist that trend.

You're saying Democrats in red states don't support further privatization and defunding of public schools through aggressive support of charters, etc.?
November 18, 2024 at 12:53 AM
Lots of folks have been having that critical fight for years and it's been a losing battle, not least because Democrats have largely been complicit in the privatization and defunding of our public schools. But sure.

I think that's the mentality that led to the election results. You're largely right, but that's not 100% of the story and to pretend otherwise is to continue down the same unsuccessful path.

I hear you, and I'm entirely serious when I say I should just stay out of it, but I am certainly dealing with a fair bit of irritation for anything that seems like a continued ineffectual refusal to deal with ineffectual stupidity that contributed to the world we're now living in.
November 17, 2024 at 11:29 PM
Fair, I'm sure. And I should just stay out of it. But I suppose I'm a little frustrated that we live in a banana republic and that the people I'm arguably aligned with think we can clown-show and meme our way to something equally ineffectual in response.

Like what?
November 17, 2024 at 11:21 PM
Sorry to be a crank, but what does that even mean? Is that the basis of our commentary at this point? Most people didn't even know if the Biden footage was real, but we've already moved past that to snarky twitter-snark? I'm definitely a crank, but there's a reason ppl think nothing matters.

The heated rhetoric has proved useless too often, too often incomplete, too often heated to no end, too often venting over solution orientation, too often lacking some humility, and more. That's not about you, but about my current preference to step back and re-evaluate voices. I doubt I'm alone.
November 17, 2024 at 5:46 PM
I don't have a substantive response and thus should refrain, but I'll say in any event that the tone here (regardless of topic) is something I'm looking to avoid in the wake of the past two weeks. I'm less interested in adamant statements of 'my opinion is the right one and yours is the wrong one".

Besides the safety recommendation for 'no turn on red' (which is pretty easily understandable), what other changes might apply?
November 24, 2023 at 4:56 PM
I'd prefer more mass transit and a community that promotes cycling and other forms of transportation. The half-measures don't seem conducive to promoting the outcomes I'd like to see.

In Indy, we have "some" cyclists (i.e., it's not super routine) and the city has paid lip service by painting a few two-foot wide "lanes" next to busy roads. That ends up putting us in some kind of limbo that doesn't seem to make anybody happy.
