I was recently asked by an IT colleague if I had any recommendations for understanding the health system.

During London's Cholera epidemic of 1854, English epidemiologist and physician Dr John Snow helped us understand the spread of disease via a contaminated pump.

Cases were highlighted in black,clusters of cholera cases (indicated by stacked rectangles).

Clinicians spend countless years in education and training to become autonomous technical experts in the care of patients.

And yet we often feel we can't make a real difference in healthcare.

To bridge this gap, I believe we need to have meaningful conversations about how we better...
