Marty is a talkative Australian/American ad guy living in Germany. He and his Japanese husband regularly find new reasons to think the other odd.
3. Local gov’t in Munich requires that when scaffolding conceals a building, the cover must bear an image of the facade, so as not to ruin the streetscape. During the renovations, the Villa Stuck obtained an exception, and showed museum artwork. Very cool, and in spirit with the Villa itself.

2. Classical and mythical subjects fascinated him, likely because it gave an excuse for nude, or near nude, subjects. A painting from his series “The Sin”, which shows a topless Eve cuddling with the Serpent, takes pride of place on the “altar to art” in his atelier…/3

Indeed. Does one sleep in the sex room, or have sex in the bedroom? It’s all a matter of perspective, no?

Right, wrong, whatever. It’s a bummer that the subject has taken up space in the brains of three intelligent people, who should be filling their heads with stories of art, science, adventure, and the power of of passion in human affairs.

I believe that if you don’t have a room, but still work from home, you can deduct a modest flat sum. Like, around €6 per day.

I’ll let the publishers know that prominent grammarians (Dreyer 2025) hate it. That’ll learn ‘em.

Oxford style uses a bibliography, and the author to refers to a work in parentheses. e.g. “Grammarians recommend fewer adverbs (Dreyer 2019, p. 650)…” Chicago style simply uses a note, either at the foot or the end, no? A note is still obtrusive, but not like constant parenthetical interruptions.

What’s your stance on Chicago style vs Oxford style? I recently contributed a chapter to a kinda academic book. Wrote it in Chicago style with discreet numbered notes at the end. The UK publisher asked for it to be rewritten in Oxford style, which IMHO felt clunkier and gunked up my prose.

To the extent I speak German AT ALL I speak it with an American-ish accent. My pronunciation likely reflects the heartland accents of my teachers at uni, and assume the same for most DaF speakers. So it surprised me a bit when the gent at the Döner shop spoke to me in Turkish accented Boarisch!
