Is anyone saying
a meeting
at a library
that spawned
some of my most
nourishing relationships
& a poetic trip
to Oklahoma
was happenstance,
left to the random
proximity of bodies?
I believe in neither
God nor luck
but something
out in the waters
& stars conducts
moments of orchestras
of our lives.

If a farmer’s purpose
is caretaking their crops
and by extension
their community, then
sometimes I don’t
feel up to task.
And sometimes,
I walk outside,
drink in the fresh
air, get to work
and summon rain,
Mother Nature’s
promise that she
and I were born
for this.

ripping it off, discarding
as she moves to the next,
to repeat because
her life depends on this.
