Been awhile since I posted anything. My 97-year old mom fell and broke her hip on Memorial Day so things were busy. But we are heading down to Mt. Laurel NJ tomorrow to do a show, so anyone in the area please stop by and support live music!!

I wanted to get this up earlier, but the day got away from me. Hope all the mothers out there had a nice day.

The New York Apple Association announced the start of apple blossom season in NY. Blossoms are starting to open on the more than 11 million apple trees statewide, making bloom the unofficial start of apple season in NY. Rick's song about coming home:

When our daughter was born, Rick wrote a letter expressing his hopes & dreams for her. When she got married, she tattooed his words on her arm.

On another non-music related topic -- I emailed my Congressman to share concern over Elon Musk. Pasting in part of Congressman Nick Lalota's response. Paragraph #4 almost made me choke on my tea. The rest of the letter was equally ridiculous.

Non-music, but I just finished woodburning two bowls. My favorite, though, is Navigator, burned on a buckeye burl bowl that my brother-in-law turned. Never plan my designs,, all freehand.

The editor of Bottle Rockets Press (haiku journal), who also pops in to see our shows whenever we're in his neck of the woods, happened to pick up a bottle of Ito En green tea and saw one of Rick's haiku printed on the bottle. He just sent us a photo. Pretty cool!

Rick added a page on our Website dedicated to Myrtle, our Ear Trumpet microphone. He wrote a haibun (literary form combining prose and haiku). Here's the haiku and a link to Myrtle.

Rick never liked this live recording of A minor Catastrophe because the guitar and mandolin aren't really audible. It's all fiddle & doumbek, but I love when Annalee switches to jawharp. (A better recording in previous post.)

No show today, but we get to stay home and shovel snow. Good exercise since our house is on a hill and the driveway is down at the street. A song Rick wrote some years back.

In case anyone happens to be in the Haverstraw NY area, come on down and catch our show. It's Super Bowl Sunday, but a little acoustic music is way better than football! Plus, we'll be done before the game starts.

Asked to play for a contradance, we practiced the fiddle tune Sally Goodin. Erica & Rick got bored & switched it to a minor key and made up words. We didn't get the gig, but we got a new song. The title fits the times.

The Homegrown String Band just celebrated 28 years of playing music together as a family. Erica (fiddle) has since retired as she's the full-time working mom of a very active and very adorable toddler. Maybe one day Maggie Rose will join us!
