Throughout the ‘Munich Crisis’ of September 1938, Britain prepared for war and sand, cleared from the railway line at Deganwy, near Llandudno, was taken to London and used to fill sandbags to protect important buildings!

Post work visit to north east Anglesey and Eglwys Llaniestyn. In the isolated cemetery is the final resting place of Mosquito pilot Sergeant John Hudson Staples.

In the Serbian capital, Belgrade, paying respects to a Llandudno lad killed in a plane crash while dropping supplies to Tito’s partisans during WW2. Laid a wreath on behalf of his family who still live in North Wales.

81 years ago today, an Avro Anson crashed on Foel Grach during a navigational exercise injuring all four airmen. Two managed to scramble off the mountain and made it to Bethesda to raise the alarm.

Remembering Private Percy Thomas of Trinity Avenue, Llandudno, who died today 1916 while on active service.
The 21-year-old was a clerk in the holiday resort before enlisting with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.

107 years ago today, the SS Apapa was torpedoed by a German submarine off Anglesey. In the following days, the bodies of some of the crew were washed up on beaches along the North Wales coast. Two bodies washed up at Rhos-on-Sea and buried in a joint grave at Bron-y-nant Cemetery in Colwyn Bay.

An afternoon at the Great Orme cemetery tidying up the 36 @cwgc.bsky.social war graves in readiness for winter. Quartermaster Serjeant Edward James was run over by a Silver Motors Company bus. He served with the Royal Engineers and was attached to the Training Centre established at Deganwy in 1915.
