The politician — someone with insider clout on the line — who tells Pelosi and Schumer and the Clintons and the Obamas it's time to settle into retirement, will be the new Dem leader. I've no idea who that will be, however.

It will be someone like Pete who sez, publicly and repeatedly, that we need to stop listening to self-interested inside traders like Pelosi and pay attention to new leaders like Mamdani who are bringing new voters to the polls.

You're right, but eventually it will be some mainstream Dem such as Pete or Goldman who publicly challenges the old guard who will catalyze change in the party. It won't be Bernie and probably not AOC and def not Mamdani.

They have to slay the current, feckless Dem regime. They have to take them on directly. AOC and Bernie have so far stopped short of that. They can’t wait for an invitation from Schumer or Pelosi.

Someone like AOC or Dan Goodman needs to call on Schumer to resign. It can’t be someone like that dude from Minnesota who challenged Biden. Someone with a real stake in the party’s future. And someone needs to call out Pelosi. She needs to retire and stop meddling in party politics. Buttigieg maybe?
