One of the great things about cross stitch is that even if you mess up, it’s really easy to take out the stitches and do it again! I mess up all the time but it’s no big deal and you can’t even tell on the finished product. 😊

For cross stitch patterns, try moving your design over to Stitch fiddle. It lets you highlight row by row if you want and you can even put symbols on the similar colors to tell them apart easier! I might try Aseprite for drawing my patterns out though.
