Conceptual synthesis uniting biology's macro- and microbiological worlds into an enveloping representation of life. Holobiont = host and all associated microbes. Hologenome = all of their genomes.

This is next level, important, and inspiring. Very well done.

Analogously, think of the terms holoenzyme vs. enzyme. A host is conceptually the enzyme, and the microbe is then the cofactor...in a very simple binary form. Cofactors, like microbes, come and go to affect form and function.

Holobiont is a term used to describe an individual host and its microbial community, including viruses and cellular microorganisms. It is derived from the Greek word holos, which means whole or entire

What is the word when AI calls it decisively right, and illustrious intellectuals do the opposite? 🤔

Quantitative Hologenomics is coming faster than most people think. The goal will be to identify the number and types of host and microbial genes, plus their putative interactions, that could explain #holobiont phenotypes.
