I don’t disagree but I think the left needs to take some responsibility because the media has always been hostile to the left.

Things are bad. Sadly people don’t feel represented by left wing politicians, they feel represented by r/wing populist politicians. Partly because of the changes in communities/ways of working/socialising, partly because the conversations on the left are often not about things that matter to them.

I’m not sure where in the UK you live but in the post industrial northern towns the change has been massive. It is unrecognisable. Mining/steel/mills etc, men doing manual work then going to the pub/club after work, that way of life has gone.

Of course. But the communities/places in which left wing politics developed & matters used to be discussed, no longer exist. I think the impression is often that the left wing focus is on culture war issues & what’s happening internationally. The space left has sadly been taken up by populists.

The left evolved in working class areas, heavy industry, unions, pubs/working men’s clubs etc. Those places no longer exist. Left wing conversations no longer seem to be centered around working people.
