I think one reason for disdain is too many college graduates took their degrees that very way. Many working class people in the midwest (personal origins) felt intimidated, inferior and eventually aggressive about not having had the time, resources etc. to get that piece of paper.

He didn't blink. He cashed in so he can do it again. Countries should NOT "negotiate" with this guy. The US no longer honors its word, so why even try?
