TLDR all of that--white evangelicalism evolved out of white southern evangelicalism which was created specifically to uphold social hierarchy/order--race, gender, class. Strong authoritarian bent. + Fear of declining social influence.

You never know…one day…

Why care about what’s happening in American Christianity (specifically white varieties)? because it is a HUGE part of our current political crisis. I believe crafting new white Christian narratives is at least part of the solution. most commentators dont get this.

My favorite! I listen to soundtrack while running on the mall and praying we don’t squander the astonishing faith in the promise of America shown by the 54th Massachusetts.
