Complicated situation. We are renting their home at a *very* below market rate, so they stayed with us a couple nights while they were in town. Difficult to refuse when they hold that power over us.

Thank you! We had all windows open, and I started masking at my first suspicion, but I also got a face full of fluids while testing the child and stupidly didn’t have eye protection, so we’ll see… It might have been too late anyway.

For context, these people were my COVID safe pod long after others abandoned precautions, but turns out the motivation was selfish and his knowledge of the subject was more politically based than scientific. Once Dems said “vax and relax,” he only held out until his kid was old enough for a vaccine.

They were leaving today anyway, and didn’t leave early, but he made a big point of, “Fine, we’re moving out,” and refusing to even acknowledge any offers for help, instead struggling with all the suitcases and bags by himself.

I asked them to mask in the house. They agreed. Then he texted my husband separately and told him to keep me occupied while they were in the house getting their things out (so I wouldn’t catch them not masking, as if I’m an idiot).

Not like it changes their plans at all. They spent the day after her positive test taking her on play dates and to every kids store and cafe in town. They’ll still send her off to camp this week. Parents won’t test themselves and will continue to socialize and travel again at the end of the week.

They agreed to test while staying with us only if they had symptoms. I heard him and his kid coughing all morning. Lied when I asked about it. So I asked the kid, who told me her throat hurt, especially when she coughed hard. Tested her, and it was positive. Now he’s pissed at me.

By which I mean, we made a very non serious offer—anything under a million here goes over asking, and we went in under—but the sellers liked the letter (I wrote in 15 minutes without stressing because I thought it didn’t matter) and chose us over higher, and now everything is happening very quickly
