You’d need a good faculty advisor then, preferably who has a relationship with whatever restoration team.

A) Open minded university administrator(s) who see the value.
B) Leadership at the non-profit doing the restoration that actually wants to involve young people. They also have to want to actually educate and teach skills, not just use students for free labor.

My district just bought a machine shop “maker space” type of venue for the use of students.

The main obstacle I think would be figuring out how to award academic credit for it and get admin/curriculum people to approve. Unless the work was done as just one project as part of a class.
