Eating Meditation Part 2

Before I start serving myself food, I recite this gatha.

My bowl, empty now,
will soon be filled with precious food.
Beings all over the Earth are struggling to live.
How fortunate we are to have enough to eat.

Because of popular demand we have now a number II Conservation Science starter pack since the first one is full since a while 🙃. If you are not yet on the first one, pass me message. I preferentially add folks with clear conservation research focus in profile and skeets.

Great to see 'The Magic of an Irish Rainforest' in a bookshop window in the lovely Clifden, Galway.

If you care about our unique, precious 🌍, consider giving one or more copies as Christmas presents!

One of my toughest:

“I can't believe I find myself in the position to share this with you, but here is what I believe to be the 1st Irish sound recording of a Golden Eagle!

It begins with a husky chattering from an angry Peregrine which was warding it off, & the eagle sounds like a yappy terrier!”

As well as birds, I just love recording Irish mammals. Here is a part of a family of Otters I have come to know very well, fighting over a crab supper! The otter in the photo is the one of those you hear & was always very curious and even followed me, playing peekaboo, at times!

The haunting bubbling display of a Curlew cutting through a crisp frosty night in Cork Harbour. There is very little that can compete with the enchantment of this sound. Isn't it sad that we have come to a point where this species is just clinging on? This needs to change.

Before I found my calling in sound recording birds I used to really love photographing them. I’m going to pick my camera up again but in the meantime I’ll post the occasional favourite here. This is a gorgeous male marsh harrier. They once bred in Ireland and are knocking on the door once again.

This blew me away on the day: a singing cow gate!

Geophony (strong wind) meets antrophony (cow gate), with a sprinkle of biophony (passing jackdaws and a late bumblebee!).

I was taken aback at how musical this sounded as the wind flowed through the nooks & crannies. Just beautiful

We were meeting business owners and shoppers along Oliver Plunkett Street after the launch of five Cork Green #GE24 candidates.
