New from @fireflypress.bsky.social - Hero is a fast-paced adventure in the wildnerness of C18th London. It has wolves, secret caves, gargoyles, chandeliers and great outfits.

I LOVED this wild and wonderful adventure by @pennychrimes.bsky.social. It reminded me of the joy and excitement of Joan Aiken's writing: wolves and hidden caves, secrets in old houses, inheritances to be found and claimed - and some splendid villains. When you see a beautiful book on the shelves of a bookshop or library, have you ever wondered how it was created? How do author and illustrator work together? Where did the idea for the book come from? Are themes of folklore and mythology relevant to today's readers? Who decided what the book's cover should look like? What do the designer and editor do? There are a lot of people involved in the creation of a book, and for this event we've invited TWICE Carnegie Medal-winning author of over 60 books for adults and children, Berlie Doherty, and illustrator Tamsin Rosewell, to tell us what goes on behind the scenes. If you're keen to find out more about how publishing works, this is a great opportunity to hear all about it. There will be time for questions. Yes. Scraped from a chimney in Clerkenwell. I make ink and paint from landscape pigments. It's not clean, so you need gloves and a mask sometimes! I painted Soot Tyger of Blake's London in ground brick, chalk and soot for @blakesociety.bsky.social a year or so back...

This tells the story of the hunted hare protected by Mother Willow, who transforms hunters' blood into hare's blood, ensuring that they learn to live as the hare does.

Both story and music are by wonderful musician, Ange Hardy, from her album Bare Foot Folk.

Another of my studies of location and atmosphere, with Eloise Williams. This one is painted in natural indigo. Indigo produces a more stable dye than woad, but a similar colour.
