The triumphant return of Ahmed as Kelleran Beq is one of the greatest moments in all Star Wars. Saying viewers didn’t understand JarJar because they were unfamiliar with Buster Keaton or Charlie Chaplin is a stretch though. Adults in 1999 grew up on that stuff. JarJar is simply a bad idea for most.

Decades of “lore” being made up on the fly for fun. If you can have Obiwan Sherlock Clouseau, you can sure as hell have some lady custodes. It’s a fun silly game, not a religion.
