Compromise or compromised? Here's our look at the sharrows design for Collins Street between Victoria & Murray Streets. Council officers will be recommending it to council at the meeting on 31 March.

Apparently each of these signs costs $1.7 million! Meaning the 15 signs installed in Hobart have cost over $25 million!

For some perspective, the federal government’s Active Transport Fund is $20 million a year. For the entire country!

Have we got our priorities right?

RoadsTas helpful explainer as to why traffic is about to get congested.

Tassie's most overlooked road rule. If you're turning at an intersection while driving or riding, you must give way to pedestrians crossing the road.

Live tracking of Hobart buses now seems to be showing on Google Maps!

Let’s hope it’s not more copy & paste sets of traffic lights like Montrose foreshore because they’re not active transport friendly.

There is (brief) mention of improving access to bus stops for people walking, wheeling and riding. Otherwise nothing about public or active transport. This is despite it being on the route for the proposed Hobart bus rapid transit network.

$100m for traffic flow improvements around the Mornington roundabout. Early days but sounds a bit “one more lane will fix it” to be honest.

You can drive past a person on a bike anywhere it's safe. Must make sure it's actually safe.

Great article in The Mercury this morning about Streets People Love Hobart.

(suspect the old age advice of don’t read the comments applies)

Hope they also fined them for stopping in the bike lane (such as it is).

"However cost isn’t the main or even one of the main reasons people don’t use public transport. This makes intuitive sense given it’s already much cheaper than driving. Level of service is far more important."

Hobart needs a modern high-frequency high-capacity public transport system. It needs to be on its own corridors to be reliable. That means either bus rapid transit or light rail.

Sounds like real time tracking for Hobart buses is coming very soon! A small step towards a modern public transport system.

The result of this poll has prompted the headline "56% of Hobart residents oppose Collins Street dual bike lane project".

This headline is wrong — it should be "56% of polled Hobart residents". Sounds pedantic maybe but let's look at why this distinction is important.

Real data in today’s Mercury. Almost 8000 bike trips a day, up more than 50% in 5 years.

Maybe Facebook comments aren’t actually representative?
