tbh i think penacony is especially compelling because it *is* an outsider’s view of “america” and a lot of it is critical but also a lot of it is also, like. it has a lot of hope about some things about the bones of the culture that i feel like actual americans are often disillusioned about

yeah for SURE penacony is critical of the american dream/prosperity gospel/etc. highly recommend reading the script stuff in the clockie event especially for that, which is especially interesting because it’s a metaphor behind a metaphor but the criticism still shines through clearly
